Everything you need to know to host a workshop
Host a free ninety minute workshop on perimenopause and menopause for your group.
-
The Menopause Literacy Project is a Chattanooga nonprofit, teaching women what is happening in their bodies during perimenopause and menopause, and how to advocate for their health during this incredibly critical time in their lives.
We are not affiliated with any clinic, practice, or product. Nothing is sold at our workshops, and no one is asked for a donation. We are a 501(c)(3) organization, and our workshop is free to your group and anyone who attends.
-
The workshop is approximately 90 minutes, and covers 4 major topics:
What perimenopause and menopause are, when they start, and what happens in the body during this time
The symptoms that can occur, why they happen, and how to deal with them
Treatment options, including hormonal and nonhormonal treatments, behavioral approaches, and standard guidelines for care
How to advocate for your health
Participants leave with a symptom checklist and an appointment preparation sheet, as well as a list of places in the region that provide care.
-
No one is asked to speak. Questions can be written on a card without a name on them, and the faciltator reads them out loud during the Q/A portion.
Any sheets or checklists that the participant fills out about their individual health is never collected, read, or photographed. It stays with the person who filled it out.
No medical advice is given. MLP is an educational organization, and our facilitators do not diagnose anyone or tell anyone what treatment to seek.
We will pass out and collect a workshop feedback and rating sheet, asking the participants to rate the facilitator, comment on the materials covered, and provide any feedback they think would make our workshops better.
-
There is no minimum or maximum group or room size. We do ask that the room you use be able to comfortably accommodate you group size.
We bring our own projector, and will need access to power in the room.
-
Our facilitators can currently travel within a 2 hour radius of Chattanooga, TN.
If you would like to host a workshop outside of that area, please use the contact form below, and our facilitators will review our current schedule and let you know if we can accommodate your needs.
-
There is no fee to your organization or to anyone who attends.
Community workshops are funded by grants and fee-based programs we run for employers. If your organization would like to talk about a workplace program, please reach out to us, or see the Employer Workshops page for more information.
-
We will provide:
a facilitator and their contact details
printed materials for attendees
a projector, laptop, and cables/power cords
pens/clipboards (we will collect these after the presentation)
You will provide:
a room with chairs
access to the room 30 minutes before the start time
a registration count at least 48 hours before the date of the presentation
the name and information of the contact person we can reach the week of the event
-
Part of this workshop covers sexual health, including topics like vaginal dryness, pain during sex, and contraception concerns during perimenopause. These are topics women are least likely to raise with a doctor on their own, but critical to their complete understanding and advocacy for their health needs.
We know that some congregations or workplaces prefer that material be handled differently. You can tell us in advance, and the facilitator will keep it on the handout and out of the spoken portion of the session.
-
We need at least 4 weeks between your request and your event date.
If your event is sooner than four weeks, please reach out via our contact form and let us know. We will review our current requests schedule and let you know if we can make it happen.
